U.S. District Judge Audrey G. Fleissig sentenced Cedric Cross Sr., 43, a convicted felon, to 97 months in prison on Tuesday after he was found with a stolen firearm following a carjacking incident. The sentence includes 85 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm and an additional 12 months for violating his supervised release from a previous felon in possession conviction in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.
In 2017, Cross was sentenced to 63 months in prison after being caught with a stolen pistol. He pleaded guilty to the new charge in May, admitting that he was apprehended with a gun by the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers on January 30, 2022. The arrest occurred after Cross jumped out of a carjacked truck, in which he was a passenger. Cross denied involvement in the carjacking itself.
Judge Fleissig determined, based on a preponderance of the evidence, that Cross was also responsible for the non-fatal shooting of his paramour in the Walnut Park West neighborhood of St. Louis a day before the carjacking. Ballistic evidence linked the handgun found with Cross to the shooting incident.
The Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Hoag prosecuted the case.
