South Harrison girls win district semifinal, awaits state-ranked North Platte in title game

The Grand River Conference champion South Harrison Lady Bulldogs are moving on to the Class 2, District 16 championship game, on the strength of a 73-58 semifinal victory over Mid-Buchanan on Wednesday night at Maysville High School.

All-GRC first teamers Ciara Jennings and Hunter Purdun controlled the paint for South Harrison, combining for 36 points (Jennings 19, Purdun 17), but just as important for the Lady Bulldogs were the contributions of Neiley Karns and Katey Wilhelm, as Karns had 15 points and Wilhelm 13.  Jill Rumpf paced the Lady Dragons with 23.

South Harrison took control of the game in the second half, outscoring the girls from Faucett 44-31 after leading by only two (29-27) at halftime.

Waiting for South Harrison in Friday night’s championship game (7 PM at Maysville High School) will be the KCI champion North Platte Lady Panthers, after the #1 seed downed upset-minded Gallatin, 46-35.  Maddie Lee led North Platte with 13 points, while Bailey Maxwell had 14 for Gallatin.

The North Platte / South Harrison winner moves into the Class 2 sectional round, and a meeting with the District 15 winner.  In the District 15 championship game, Santa Fe will battle Wellington-Napoleon on Friday night at 6 o’clock at the Santa Fe gymnasium in Alma, Missouri.
