Six Mercer Cardinals named to Class 1, All-District 12 team

Three members each of the district champion Mercer Cardinals have been named to the 10-member all-district team for Class 1, District 12.  For the Lady Cardinals, the junior trio of Nicole Kost, Bailey Owens, and Lindsay Wyatt were named all-district, joined by the Grundy R-5 duo of Matana Munday and Abby Wells, a pair from district runner-up Linn County, in Megan Schreiner and Alexis Miller, Savannah Jochem of Bucklin-Macon County, and Meadville’s Reagin Klein.  Mercer won the district title on Friday night with a 76-32 victory over Linn County, in a contest broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 from Green City High School.

The Mercer boys won the District 12 title on Friday night with a 40-33 win over Novinger.  Three Cardinals are all-district, in Cash Hartley, Trey Wilson, and Bryar Noe.  From Novinger, Collin Roberts and Trae Brownell made the squad, along with Ryan Young of Meadville, Dusten Coke and Jase White of Linn County, Dane Robertson of Bucklin-Macon County, and Ryan Peavler of Green City.

Mercer advanced to the sectional round of the Class 1 playoffs, where the Cardinals split on Tuesday night, with the Lady Cardinals season ending with a loss to Community, while the Mercer boys beat Wellsville, advancing to Saturday night’s quarterfinal against Glasgow (7:45 PM from Salisbury High School on Hot Country Z 101.7).
