MILAN, Mo. –University of Missouri Extension in Sullivan County hosts a Show Stock Clinic for 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors and their parents on April 9.

The clinic is open to exhibitors in any county and covers beef, bucket calves, market goats, market lambs and market hogs.

“Participants will learn about selection, handling, feeding, grooming, exhibiting and health care of their animals,” says MU Extension 4-H youth program assistant Penny Kittle.

“Experts on each species will give short presentations and offer hands on information,” Kittle says.

Participants should not bring their own animals. Animals for demonstrations will be provided. Feed company representatives will offer nutritional advice and products. A veterinarian will talk about animal health concerns and treatments.

The clinic is geared towards beginner and intermediate level exhibitors, Kittle says.

“Youth livestock projects can teach responsibility and stewardship,” Kittle says. “Exhibitors need to have a strong understanding of animals’ needs and how to prepare them for show day.”

The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 9 at the North Missouri Livestock Auction in Milan.

Exhibitors can register up to the morning of the event for $20. Free lunch will be served to youth and is available to adults for $5. Door prizes will be given.
