Short Video: Fire in hog confinement facility near Blythdale spurs 8 departments to respond

A large number of piglets were lost, however, a large number of sows were saved from a fire at a large hog confinement facility north of Blythedale Saturday morning.

Firefighters from eight departments responded to the blaze and details were not available. It was believed the owner is a company from Canada and an estimated 5,500 sows were saved.

Firefighters from the North Harrison, Ridgeway, Cainsville, Bethany, Mercer and Mercer County, Lamoni, and Leon, Iowa departments responded to the scene, most of them with tankers.

Firefighters were on the scene several hours Saturday morning, some well before daybreak.
