Road grader travels into path of pickup on Highway 36 injuring St. Joseph man

The Highway Patrol reports a Saint Joseph man sustained moderate injuries when a pickup truck struck a road grader near Osborn on Wednesday morning.

Emergency medical services transported pickup driver 69-year-old Gerald Leake to Mosaic Life Care in Saint Joseph. No injuries were reported for road grader driver 81-year-old Loren Sloan.

The grader traveled south on Lakesite Road and attempted to cross Highway 36 and reportedly drove into the path of the eastbound pickup. The truck struck the grader on the passenger side before the vehicles came to rest on the south side of the road.

The pickup was totaled, and the road grader received minor damage. Leake wore a safety device, but Sloan did not.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Osborn Fire Department, and Clinton/DeKalb County EMS assisted at the scene of the crash.
