Resident of Hale community dies in car crash

A resident of the Hale community, 32-year-old Tanya Woody, was killed Friday, June 24 when the van she was driving hit the rear of a tractor-trailer unit, then became engulfed in fire.

The accident happened three miles east of Monroe City in northeast Missouri as both vehicles were westbound on Highway 36.

The van was demolished with the truck sustaining extensive damage.

The truck driver, 49-year-old Juan Chavez of Racine, Wisconsin, was not reported hurt.

The patrol reports Chavez was wearing a seatbelt, however,  it was unknown whether Tanya Woody was wearing a safety device.
