A long-time Mercer County resident who has hunted turkeys for 40 years will be the guest speaker at the Princeton Rotary Youth Turkey Calling Contest and Outdoor Expo. Andy Krohn will share practical tips at the Princeton Elementary School March 21st from his experiences of introducing young persons to turkey hunting.

Turkey hunting calls, hunting equipment, apparel, gear, and hunting blinds will be available at a silent auction at the school that morning from 8:30 to 11:45. Vendor tables will be open from 8:30 to noon. Each table costs $20, and vendors should pre-register with Matt Krohn.

Amateur youth callers can participate in the turkey calling contest in three age divisions: eight and younger, nine to 12, and 13 to 15. Youth can also participate in an open owl calling class in two age divisions: 12 and younger and 13 to 17. Sign in for the contests will be from 8:30 to 9:30. The entry fee for each is $5. An introduction of contestants will be at 10 o’clock, the youth turkey calling contest will start at 10:15, and the open owl calling competition will begin at 11 o’clock. First place for the turkey calling contest will receive $50.00, second place $35.00, and third place $25.00. First place for the owl calling will receive $30.00, and second place will win $20.00.

Andy Krohn will speak on the morning of March 21st from 9 o’clock to 9:45. Princeton Junior High and High School students will compete in an archery tournament at 10 o’clock.

Awards and a raffle drawing for a gun will be presented at 11:45. The gun drawing winner can choose between three guns or a $400.00 credit at Wood’s Gun Shop. The winner is subject to an approved federal background check. Event Co-chairperson Matt Krohn says tickets cost $10.00 for one or $20.00 for three.

A concession stand will sell homemade cinnamon rolls by Marcia Cox. Pre-orders for a dozen cinnamon rolls cost $20, and the deadline is March 17th for pre-orders.
