Princeton R-5 Board of Education has busy agenda at Monday meeting

The Princeton R-5 Board of Education verified and approved April 4th’s election results of Proposition 2 at its meeting Monday evening.

The board heard updates to the timeline for construction for the Proposition 2 projects. A more detailed presentation will be given at the May meeting and multiple meetings will be held between the architects and staff before then.

The board approved the bus driver job description and the purchase of nine buses from Midwest Bus Sales for $622,780. The lease purchase approval to purchase the bus fleet was approved with U. S. Bank with a 2.19% interest rate.

The board also approved the purchase of a commercial zero turn lawnmower from AgriVision of Leon, Iowa quoted at $11,100.

Tuition for the 2017-2018 school year for kindergarten through 12th-grade students was approved at $6,145.

The board approved to raise the current health insurance premium cap to $534.43, which will cover the 6.6% premium increase for next school year. The total cost for the plan is $556.10, leaving the employee and out of pocket monthly expense at $21.67. The total estimated cost to the district to raise the cap is $23,550.

Breakfast and lunch prices for next school year were approved with lunch prices for kindergarten through sixth grade to increase to $2.25, lunch prices for seventh through 12th grade will increase to $2.50, and adult prices will increase to $3.20.

The board heard staffing recommendations from Superintendent Jerry Girdner for next school year.

Princeton R-5 will only have one section for second grade, and there will be only one librarian.

Three board members were sworn in: Rick Ellsworth, Karla Meinke, and Larry Pollard.

The board voted Ellsworth as President, Pollard as Vice President, Ron Parson as Secretary and Meinke as Treasurer.

After a closed session, the board approved the resignation of elementary teacher Lisa Wallace, the extra duty contract of Toni Powell, and cook Cherri Delameter.

The retirement of seventh through 12th-grade principal Tami Miller was approved as well as all probationary teaching contracts for next school year.
