Pleasant View Board of Education extends superintendent’s contract

The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education approved the 2020-2021 school calendar on Tuesday evening. The first day for Pleasant View will be August 26th, and the last day is scheduled for May 14th, 2021.

Field trips were approved for the third grade to the animal shelter Wednesday, third and fourth grade to the literature festival in Warrensburg March 17th, and third and fourth grade to Science City in Kansas City March 27th.

The board heard an update on a proposal to add on new classrooms and hire a fifth-grade teacher next school year, but no action was taken. Missouri School Boards Association policy updates were approved.

Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff gave an update on the school board election. Incumbents Damien Little, Ben Thomas, and Tim Miller have refiled.

Pleasant View will dismiss early Friday, and there will not be school Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Junior Day. Midterms for the third quarter will be February 7th. There will be an early dismissal on February 14th. The fifth and sixth-grade basketball game is February 18th.

In a closed session, the board approved extending the superintendent’s contract by one year to continue a three-year contract. The salary will be determined at a later date. The board also approved hiring Kelli Urton and Micah Stelzer as paraprofessionals in the Early Childhood Special Education program and Steven McLain as a school custodian. They are all from Trenton.
