The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education approved hiring constructional engineering company Norton and Schmidt of Kansas City to approve plans for a new addition to the school building. A proposed drawing of the addition included three new classrooms, a concession stand area, two new bathrooms, and a new gym entrance.
A motion was approved to move a matured certificate of deposit in the amount of $367,000.40 from Home Exchange Bank to the school’s money market account.
Janet Lake’s Preschool calendar was approved as well as several field trips, including the third and fourth grade going to Crowder State Park April 6th, the fifth grade attending the Water Festival at Barton Farm Campus in Trenton April 8th, and the fifth through eighth grades going to Hannibal April 30th. A discussion was held on an eighth-grade trip, but no final decision was made.
Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff reported the school’s three buses passed inspection.
The preschool and kindergarten round-up is scheduled for Friday (March 13th), a blood drive will be March 19th from 2 to 6 o’clock, the Pleasant View Extravaganza is March 21st at 5:30, and the buy one, get one free book fair will be March 27th through April 3rd.
In a closed session, the board approved hiring all tenured and non-tenured certified staff members, with tenure being offered to Second Grade Teacher Kimberly Ray. Several guidelines were approved for an eighth-grade trip.
