Fire overnight has left a Chillicothe family without their home and belongings as a structure fire was reported just before midnight at 517 Orchard Street which was the residence of Kim Riddle.

Upon arrival, Fire Chief Darrell Wright said a single wide trailer was fully involved with fire. All occupants were out of the home including one adult and three children. Chief Wright said the adult received minor burns and emergency medical services transported the patient to Hedrick Medical Center for evaluation.

Fire Chief Wright said the firefighters used a defensive attack mode on the fire with hand-lines on each side of the structure, however, the structure is considered a total loss.  Approximately 2,000 gallons of water/foam mix was used to extinguish the fire.

Chief Wright quoted an occupant as saying they were cooking soup on the stove and turned around to notice fire on the stove. The home did have working smoke detectors. The owner of the property is Dave Harris of 515 Orchard.

Chillicothe Fire Department Chaplain Zach Parks made contact with the American Red Cross to assist the family with their needs because of the loss.

Firefighters were on the scene until the early morning hours.
