Grundy County’s delinquent property tax sale, held Monday morning at the courthouse, raised a total of $103,147, with 22 properties sold.
The properties sold include eight in both Trenton and Madison townships, three in Wilson township, two in Franklin township, and one in Liberty township.
The Grundy County collector-treasurer’s office reported that the highest sale price was for the former Flowers by Sarah on Kerfoot Street. The taxes owed on this property were $5,015, but competitive bidding increased the sale price to $75,000. Of this total, $69,984 was recorded as surplus.
For the 22 properties sold, the combined tax amount owed was $21,447, while the surplus generated totaled $81,699.
It was noted that properties must sell for at least the amount of taxes owed plus any applicable fees. Any amount exceeding what is owed, including fees, is considered “surplus.”
Initially, fewer than 40 properties were listed for the delinquent tax sale, but several properties did not attract any bidders.
