Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging is hosting a Falls Prevention Fair at the Grand River Multipurpose Center on Monday, September 25th 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries and hospital admissions for trauma. Falls can take a serious toll on older adults’ quality of life and independence.

The fair will include several free health screenings that include: hearing testing by Woodward Hearing Center, orthostatic blood pressure screening by Livingston County Health Center and balance and gait testing by Hedrick Medical Center. Hometown Pharmacy will also be available to provide medication reviews—please bring a complete list of medications.

There will also be Tai Chi for Arthritis demonstrations, as well as information about the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy class offered locally by the University of Missouri Extension.

Attendees will also get to view a model of a living room containing common fall risks, so they can take measures at home to avoid these same risks.

Healthy snacks and entry into a prize drawing will be offered. All attendees are invited to stay for lunch. Please call 646-1555 by 10 a.m. to make lunch reservations. Age 60 and older, suggested donation of $4.00; guests under 60 suggestion donation of $6.65; children under 12 $1.50. Serving daily from 11 a.m. to 12:30.
