The North Mercer School District announces several decisions impacting activities previously scheduled through March 27th.
All after-school activities, with the exception of the 21st Century After School Program, are being suspended for two weeks. This includes all MSHSAA activities; academic team and track and field, FFA, FBLA, and elementary basketball. All Mercer school field trips and evening activities are canceled or postponed until March 27th.
Officials explain Mercer’s after school tutoring and the after school program (3:30-5:30) is not affected at this time. This is due to parental dependence on the program for after school services.
In a letter from Superintendent Dan Owens, all parents are encouraged to develop plans now for your children. The school will continue to share updated information through texts, emails and social media on Facebook and Twitter as well as the website (northmercer.k12.mo.us).
The school will continue to stay in contact with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as they issue guidance to Missouri school districts. Owens is asking all ur families to be prepared for all possible scenarios, including an extended closure of schools, should COVID-19 become an issue locally. As of today, (March 16, 2020) there are NO known cases of coronavirus in Mercer County. Owens emphasized all decisions will be made in the best interest of the health of our students, staff, and community.
The North Mercer School District will develop a plan to provide meals for students in the event that school is canceled for an extended amount of time.
