Newtown-Harris Board of Education approves school trips

The Newtown-Harris R-3 Board of Education at its meeting Monday evening approved school trips.

One was the National FFA trip to Indianapolis, Indiana where FFA members Nathan and Matthew Wells, Hannah and Sarah Garcia, Emily Otto, and Lillian Fordyce presented the trip itinerary and budget. The other trips approved were for the band to go to Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa November 12th, February 4th, and March 19th.

The board tabled a decision on a door lock system until the November meeting pending bid presentations.

Principal Dustin Freeman reported that Lori Ladwig with the Northeast Regional Professional Development Committee will discuss instructional and classroom management strategies for district staff Wednesday, October 10th, 2018.

FFA fruit sales will continue through this week and the elementary book fair will run Friday through October 25th. It was also announced that the Parent Teacher Organization Carnival will be Saturday evening from 5 to 8 o’clock.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held on October 25th from 2 to 6 o’clock and Newtown-Harris will not be in session October 26th.

Superintendent Doctor Kim Johnson expressed appreciation to Smithfield for its donation of water for student organization and district use.
