The North Central Missouri College baseball team picked up eight hits and four runs, but an eight-run 3rd inning by visiting Indian Hills spoiled the Pirates hopes of grabbing their first victory of the spring, with the Iowa club winning 14-4 on Thursday afternoon at Burleigh Grimes Field.

Landon Figg opened the game in strong fashion for North Central, cracking a solo homer in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Stephan Vidal scored on an RBI single by Cortlen Austin to make the score 2-0.

Indian Hills, on the power of two doubles, a Pirate error, a sacrifice fly, put up eight runs in the 3rd inning to claim an 8-2 lead, an advantage never relinquished.  NCMC closed the lead to 9-4 with a pair of runs in the Pirate 5th, with a fielder’s choice grounder, and an RBI single by Austin scoring the runs.  Five runs down the stretch by Indian Hills ended NCMC’s upset hopes.

NCMC will jump into Region 16 play this weekend, hosting Three Rivers Community College in four games.  Saturday’s doubleheader at Burleigh Grimes starts at 1 o’clock, with a Sunday double-dip cranking up at 12 noon.
