NCMC partners with Education To Go to offer online courses

The North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees approved a continuation grant application and budget for Head Start, partnering with a third party to offer online courses, a cross-reference for board policies, a resignation, and an increase in pay at its meeting Tuesday evening.

Head Start Director Doctor Beverly Hooker reported the Head Start fourth year continuation grant application and the budget reflects federal funds totaling $2,155,153 as well as non-federal resources totaling $538,788. She said a final copy of the budget will be available at the October board meeting.  The grant application submission is due by November 1st, 2017. The application budget period will begin February 1st, 2018 and will end January 31st, 2019.

NCMC will partner with Education To Go (also known as ed2go) to offer online Career Education and Workforce Development courses. The company offers more than 400 six-week courses beginning every month.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Doctor Tristan Londre said NCMC can offer all of the courses or choose what it wants to offer. Education to Go also offers more than 250 career training programs to prepare students for industry-recognized certifications to consider adding in the future. NCMC would receive about 35% of the tuition.

Londre reported he investigated four companies and believes Education to Go was the best option. The other companies were LERN UgotClass, ProTrain, and CareerStep.

A section was added to the board policy manual involving amorous relationships. The section cross-references two policies involving conflicts of interest and nepotism.

SSS Program Director Linda Flentje resigned October 9th.

Equal Opportunity Officer Brent Stevens’s will be given an additional $5,000 total for the duties he took over for Program Operations Manager Maranda Callahan in her absence. The pay will be a one-time, temporary increase for the extra responsibilities and duties he has and will perform above his regular workload for September, October, and November.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Doctor Londre, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students Doctor Kristen Alley, and several other faculty gave a special board report on recruitment, retention, and the second session. They gave reasons they believed enrollment increased. Londre reported NCMC tied for its highest enrollment this semester.

President Doctor Lenny Klaver reported several college faculty and board members will attend the Missouri Community College Association conference November 1st through 3rd. He said Missouri Community College Association Executive Director Brian Millner will visit and hold an open forum for faculty and staff November 7th.

NCMC’s Second Legislative Forum will be November 30th. Klaver noted he would like to see the governor visit the campus during a legislative forum.

He reported Dean of Extended Campus at the North Belt Center in Andrew County told him the North Belt Center received a $100,000 state grant for tuition and fees for one year for to be used by students in the Behavioral Health Support Program.

The North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees took action on three matters during an executive session Tuesday evening.

The board approved awarding all faculty and staff with an extra personal day to be taken during this semester in lieu of no across-the-board salary increases for the fiscal year 2018.  The day may be taken as a full day or two half days and must be scheduled in advance with approval by the faculty or staff member’s supervisor.

The board also hired Alicia Endicott of Gallatin as the Development Director effective November 13th, pending a satisfactory background check.  The position is a full-time administrative/management/professional position with the salary to be $52,000 annually.

The board also voted to sell a college-owned property at 1601 Lulu Street according to proper legal channels.
