Mount Vernon man hurt in crash south of Chillicothe

The Highway Patrol reports a Mount Vernon man sustained minor injuries as the result of a traffic accident three miles south of Chillicothe Tuesday morning.

Seventy-seven-year-old Jon Mullins escorted a vehicle hauling an oversized load driven by 60-year-old Clyde Newman of Lorraine, Kansas on northbound U. S. 65 when they met another oversized load.

Newman pulled over to the shoulder, and Mullins struck the back of Newman’s vehicle. Mullins’s van received extensive damage, and Newman’s tractor trailer received minor damage.

EMS transported Mullins to Hedrick Medical Center.

The Patrol reports both drivers wore safety devices at the time of the accident.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department assisted.
