The Missouri State Highway Patrol released the results of its 2017 Public Opinion Survey.

The Patrol received a 91.2% overall approval rating with 92.7% of the respondents also rating the Patrol’s appearance, attitude, and demeanor as good or excellent.

About three out of five respondents reported having direct contact with the Patrol.

Eighty-nine point three percent of those individuals reported an excellent or good experience. Eighty-eight point one percent of all persons surveyed said they approve of driving while intoxicated patrols. Eighty-three point three percent approve of sobriety checkpoints in order to detect and remove intoxicated drivers from the state’s roads.

The survey indicated 75.3% believe enforcing criminal law is the Patrol’s most important duty. Seventy point four percent identified detecting and deterring the flow of illegal drugs as a very important duty. Sixty-nine point one percent indicated traffic crash investigation as a very important duty.

It was reported 1,812 individuals voluntarily responded to the online survey from July 1st to 31st. The Patrol reports 97.4% of the respondents were Missouri residents. Two point six percent were nonresidents or did not disclose that information.
