Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway has announced her office has started work on an audit of the city of Bethany, located in Harrison County.

Residents of the northwest Missouri city requested the audit through the petition process. Auditor Galloway will also complete an audit of the Bethany Municipal Court.

“The residents of Bethany are demonstrating why Missouri is called the Show-Me State,” Auditor Galloway said. “Missourians from all over the state are engaged and working with my office to ensure the government is held accountable to the people it serves. I look forward to conducting an independent review and I encourage anyone with information on the city or court to contact my Whistleblower Hotline.”

The city of Bethany petition audit required 200 signatures, which were certified by the Harrison County Clerk. This is the first state audit of the city, which has a population of just over 3,000 people and covers about five square miles.

Individuals who would like to provide information for consideration in this or any audit may contact the State Auditor’s Whistleblower Hotline at [email protected] or by calling 800-347-8597. Concerns may also be submitted anonymously online at auditor.mo.gov/hotline.
