Missouri Public Service Commission asked to approve merger

Great Plains Energy, Incorporated, Kansas City Power and Light Company, KCP& L Greater Missouri Operations Company, and Westar Energy Incorporated filed a joint application with the Missouri Public Service Commission.

The application asks the Commission to approve the merging of Westar and Great Plains Energy through the formation of a new holding company and exchange of stock by shareholders of both companies.

Great Plains Energy is a Missouri corporation and holds the stock of KCP&L and Greater Missouri Operations Company, which operate as public utilities in Missouri.

Westar is a Kansas corporation operating as an electric public utility in Kansas.

Applications to intervene and participate in the case must be filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission by September 27th.

Individual citizens wishing to comment should contact either the Office of Public Counsel or the Public Service Commission Staff.
