JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri (NBCSports.com) – Missouri House representative Courtney Allen Curtis sponsored a bill that would name as Missouri’s official baseball team the St. Louis Cardinals. It’s HB 2831. The text:

Section A. Chapter 10, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 10.210, to read as follows:

10.210. The St. Louis Cardinals, which can trace its history in Missouri back to 1882, are selected for and shall be known as the official baseball team of the state of Missouri.

Needless to say, this would come at the expense of the Kansas City Royals, who won the World Series last season. The proposed date for the bill to become effective, if it is passed, is at the end of August, just in time for the stretch run.

At least we know that Missouri’s government is focusing on the important issues.
