The United States Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service has announced that Missouri has been officially added to the list of states with Qualified Opportunity Zones.

The program is designed to spur investment in economically distressed communities with tax incentives for investors and was created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Acts of 2017.

Several census tracts received designations as opportunity zones in northern Missouri, including western Caldwell County, eastern Sullivan County, and Kirksville, all of which are included in Missouri’s Sixth Congressional District.

Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves says the opportunity zone designations could really help revitalize some important areas in these communities, spur economic growth, and attract investment that otherwise might not exist.
