Gary Porter, of Mercer, Mo., has been elected president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association. Porter assumed his new role Oct. 1, succeeding Morris Heitman of Mound City, Mo.
Porter previously served the state’s growers as Missouri Corn Merchandising Council chairman, secretary, treasurer and vice chairman as well as MCGA vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Porter also works on behalf of corn farmers nationally with his service as the team leader for the U.S. Grains Council Western Hemisphere Advisory Team.
“It is truly an honor to be working for Missouri corn farmers,” said Porter. “We have both opportunities and challenges in the year ahead. Despite low corn prices and thin profit margins, we have the opportunity to build up exports and feed more livestock. The MCGA board and staff will continue working to protect corn farmers and the issues that affect growers’ bottom lines.”
