Jeffrey S. Meyer and Christon Chambers, both of Maryville, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child in an incident that happened on July 5 of last year. According to a probable cause statement, the two consumed alcohol before sleeping in the same bed as the infant and another sibling, causing the infant’s death.
The child was found unresponsive and not breathing at about 4 a.m. July 6. The infant was pronounced dead that morning.
According to the autopsy, the cause of death was overlay — that’s when another person rolls on top of or against an infant while sleeping.
Meyer and Chambers were listed as the parents of the 7-week-old child that died July 6 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
