A man from Maryville was killed Wednesday night in a rollover accident in rural Nodaway county.

The highway patrol said 68-year-old Thomas Coy was dead at the scene, one mile to the east of Barnard. Authorities noted he was not wearing a seat belt and had been thrown out of the overturning vehicle.

The patrol reported a sports utility vehicle driven by Coy was westbound when it crossed the center line of Route M. The driver over-corrected causing the SUV to begin skidding. The vehicle went off the north side of the road, struck an embankment, went airborne, struck the ground, and overturned multiple times.

The sports utility vehicle was demolished.
