According to a Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce official, there are apparently no plans in the immediate future to move the high school marching band festival that Trenton has hosted for 20 years.

Chamber President Debbie Carman said she has spoken to a Trenton marching festival director, plus at least four officials in Kirksville, each of whom claims no knowledge of changing cities.

Mrs. Carman said she spoke with co-director Roy Maxwell of the marching band festival as well as with Kirksville leaders in economic development, their chamber of commerce, the school administrator, and Kirksville’s’ band director.

Thus the rumor. Mrs. Carman stated, has been confirmed to be false.

At the Monday night Trenton City Council meeting, Mayor Nick McHargue told those present at city hall that Kirksville was setting aside money for a marching band festival. And he expressed concerns that it would impact the Trenton community.

The Trenton Marching Band Festival will be Saturday, October 21st beginning with an 8:30 parade. Competition includes field show performances at C-F Russell Stadium plus auxiliary, color guard, percussion and drumline units performing in the Trenton high school gym.

It’s the 21st year that the marching band competition is held with the Missouri Days Festival in Trenton.
