The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence in Ludlow Wednesday evening in response to an assault.

Upon arrival, the investigation showed the victim being a mentally disabled man that was at the home with the mother’s boyfriend. An argument had apparently taken place between the two men, and the suspect allegedly made a racial slur and the victim punched the suspect.

The suspect then reportedly took a pot of boiling water and splashed it on the victim, causing the victim to receive second-degree burns. The victim was transported to Hedrick Medical Center for treatment and later referred to the Kansas University Burn Center.

Alfred K Hyatt Jr., 57, of Ludlow was arrested for alleged second-degree assault and was transferred to the Daviess-DeKalb Region Jail pending the filing of formal charges in Livingston County.
