Livingston County residents may dispose of special waste items banned from landfills at a collection event Saturday.

The solid waste may be brought to the Old Pellet Building at 200 Brunswick in Chillicothe from 9 o’clock to noon that day. Free will donations will be accepted for household hazardous waste in its original container and not leaking.

Clean tires free of debris, appliances, and some electronics will be accepted for a fee. Intact batteries and ink cartridges as well as miscellaneous electronics, such as stereos and phones, will be accepted free of charge.  Other items to be collected include paint, oil, transmission and brake fluid, aerosols, herbicides, pesticides, and miscellaneous household chemicals.

Waste from commercial generators or businesses will not be accepted nor will toxic, medical, joint compounds as well as empty paint cans.

The City of Chillicothe, Livingston County, and the North Missouri Solid Waste Management District Region B sponsor the solid waste collection event. The event is funded with grant funds from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Questions or comments should be directed to District Planner Ann Hamilton at 660-359-5636 extension 20 or at 660-247-1356.
