A Lawson man sustained what the Highway Patrol called minor injuries when a train hit his vehicle southwest of Polo Wednesday morning.

The Patrol reports 21-year-old Brady McCaskey traveled north on Boulder Road and attempted to apply his brakes as he approached train tracks. Upon seeing the approaching vehicle, the train operator, 45-year-old James Fisher of Blue Springs applied his emergency brakes.

Neither vehicle was able to stop and the train hit the front passenger side of McCaskey’s car, causing moderate damage to the car. The car came to a rest south of the train tracks in the ditch.

McCaskey refused medical treatment.

The Patrol reports McCaskey wore a safety device at the time of the accident, while Fisher did not.
