Laredo R-7 Board of Education approves purchase of math curriculum

The Laredo R-7 Board of Education adopted the school calendar for 2020-2021 Monday evening.

A school representative says the first day of school for Laredo will be August 25th, and the last day is scheduled for May 12th, 2021. School will start at 7:55 in the morning and dismiss at 3:30 in the afternoon.

The board approved purchasing the Big Ideas Math curriculum for the seventh grade. Also approved was paying for a basic package for $26 for a health screening April 29th. An advertisement will be run for mowing bids. Conrad and Higgins, LLC still have the audit bid until 2021.

Three candidates filed for the three open board positions: Casey Bowe, incumbent Jason Meeker, and Sarah Lowrey. No election needs to be held, and candidates will assume their three-year terms effective at the April meeting.

Laredo student Jaiden Carter placed second at the Grundy County Spelling Bee. She will compete in Saint Joseph on March 7th.

A Title 1 Reading Night will be held on March 31st. A spring concert was approved for the evening of April 28th at 6 o’clock and the deadline is March 15th for the Murphy Scholarship.

In an executive session, the board extended the contract for Superintendent Misty Foster by one year to continue a three-year contract.
