Jacob Hickman hired as full-time crew member at Trenton Fire Department

Jacob Hickman is the latest full time addition to the Trenton Fire Department crew.

Hickman is a Trenton native and a 2008 graduate of the Trenton High School, son of Donita Hickman and the late Richard Peery.  He has served as a Reserve Firefighter with the Trenton Fire Department since 2011, and a Volunteer Firefighter with the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District since 2010.

Hickman is CPR certified, holds certifications in Basic Firefighting, Farm Machinery Rescue, Outdoor Search & Rescue and Grain Bin Engulfment Rescue. Hickman will be attending training this Winter to earn certification in Hazardous Materials Operations, Firefighter II, and has expressed interest in earning certifications in various rescue courses and fire investigation.

He will fill an open position as the Firefighter on “A” Shift under the direction of Training Officer Lt. Doug Franklin, starting Wednesday, June 8th. The position opened after Firefighter Derek Hert was transferred to serve as the Shift Supervisor of “C” shift, after Lt. Mike Moore accepted a the role as Chief of Training with the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District.

Hickman was chosen from an applicant testing pool performed annually, consisting of five applicants who must score above 70% on a general education cognitive exam, must complete a physical agility course in a given amount of time, followed by an oral interview conducted by fire officers within the Trenton Fire Department.
