Iowa teen life-flighted after boating accident in Macon County

A 17-year-old Mount Sterling, Iowa teen was seriously injured in a boating accident in Long Branch Lake at Long Branch State Park in Macon County, Missouri over the weekend. 

The boating accident occurred Saturday, August 6, when the operator of the boat, 21-year-old Richard Martin of Pulaski, Iowa was stopped in the water waiting for Keith Garman to board the boat after Skiing. While Garman was attempting to board the vessel, Martin put the boat in gear, causing the rotating propeller to strike Garman in the leg.

Garman was transported by Macon County Ambulance to Samaritan Hospital, then life-flighted to University Hospital in Columbia.

The 2:45 pm accident happened on the west arm of the lake at the 4-1/2 mile marker.
