If you’ve driven U.S. Route 36 near Osborn in recent weeks you’ve noticed a lot of activity. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Herzog Contracting Corporation to rebuild and resurface portions of U.S. Route 36. Herzog and their sub-contractors first built crossovers and turn lanes around the Route 33 north and Route M junction with U.S. Route 36. These crossovers will take traffic head to head in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 36 while the westbound lanes are being rebuilt.

Beginning Wednesday, April 11, access between the east and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 36 at the Route 33 and Route M junction will close. Drivers at the intersection will be restricted to right turns both onto and off of U.S. Route 36.

For drivers heading south on Route 33 north, they will only be able to turn right onto the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 36. If they want to go east or south on Route M towards Osborn, they will need to travel west approximately 0.5 miles to the next crossover at Lakesite Road.

For drivers coming north on Route M, they will only be able to turn right onto the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 36. If they want to go west or north on Route 33 towards Maysville, they will need to travel east approximately 0.5 miles to the next crossover.

The intersection should reopen April 17.

Head-to-head traffic is tentatively scheduled to begin April 22 and continue until just before the July 4th holiday. Towards the end of this phase, access to Route 33 North will be closed to all traffic while a new intersection is constructed.

Crews plan to work during daylight hours Monday through Saturday. Traffic control will be in place alerting motorists of the work. All work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.
