Highway 136 crash east of Unionville injures two from Bethany

A crash accident occurred on Highway 136, eight miles east of Unionville, Missouri, on the morning of July 5, 2024. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened at approximately 9:35 a.m.

The accident involved a 2004 Nissan Sentra driven by David L. Carpenter, a 65-year-old man from Bethany, Missouri. The vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and subsequently ran off the left side of the roadway before overturning. The Nissan Sentra was totaled and secured roadside.

David L. Carpenter sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was transported by the Putnam County Ambulance District to Putnam County Memorial Hospital. A 65-year-old woman from Bethany, Missouri, identified as Ruth J. Dougherty, was an occupant in the vehicle. She also suffered serious injuries and was transported to Putnam County Memorial Hospital by the Putnam County Ambulance District. Both individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The incident was investigated by Trooper Keller of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, with assistance from Trooper Hendershott, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and the Putnam County Ambulance District.
