The Pershing Health System reports it has become aware of an employed provider at the Community Medical Associates Clinic of Brookfield who tested positive for COVID-19. The health system has worked with the Linn County Health Department regarding reporting and contact tracing of persons who may have been in contact with the provider.

Patients who were in contact with the provider for the last two weeks have been notified. Evaluation and quarantine of employees who were exposed are also in effect. The infected provider is at home in self-quarantine and reported to be “recovering well.”

The Pershing Health System notes it has followed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines regarding COVID-19, including screening patients, visitors, and staff who may enter facilities. Visitor limitations have been in place for several days.

The health system has been testing individuals per CDC criteria. Testing is available from Quest laboratory services in a limited capacity. People with suspected or actual contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient are asked to monitor their temperature two times a day and be aware of any cough or shortness of breath that may develop.

People can contact the Linn County Health Department or their providers for more information or if they feel they need an evaluation for COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone experiencing moderate to severe respiratory symptoms should be evaluated at an emergency department. It is encouraged that persons contact providers or the emergency department before presenting for care.
