At Wednesday nights’ meeting of the Grundy R-5 Board of Education, Superintendent Rob Deaver announced his retirement at the end of the current school year.

Deaver taught high school science for 12 years at Grundy R-5, then was high school principal at Braymer, served one year as the administrator at Pleasant View R-6 school, and currently is in his 14th year as the superintendent at Grundy R-5 schools in Galt and Humphreys.

The candidate filing period has been set to choose three individuals for the Grundy R-5 school board. The first day for candidates to file is December 11th with the final day for filing January 15th. The three-year terms expiring next April are held by Randy Radcliff and Danny Berry. There’s also a one-year unexpired term to be filled. Candidate filings will be accepted during normal school hours.

Approval was given to purchase extended liability insurance coverage from the Missouri United School Insurance Council. Also approved was a request from a student for early graduation. Evaluations were approved for health services, facilities and grounds, and homeless and migrant programs.

The board recognized students Kendra Betz, Anna Milazzo, and Ada Fox for placing first in the categories of the F-F-A fall speaking contests. The Humphreys elementary school will have a Christmas program on December 10th at 6 in the evening.
