Grundy R-5 Board of Education adopts employee health insurance plans

The Grundy County R-5 School Board chose a health insurance plan for next school year at its meeting Monday.

The board chose to offer the next lesser plan and pay 100% of the premium which will increase by 6.6%, and the monthly premium will be near $488 per employee. The plan will have a $4,000 out of pocket maximum. Employees will have the option to buy up to another plan at their own expense.

The cost of the insurance increase for the district will be about $7,800.

New board members Tyson Christy, Abe Carver, Reggie Grindstaff, and Mike Herrold took the oath of office.

The board reorganized with Alex Peterson as President, Mike Herrold as Vice President, Abe Carver as Treasurer, and Tyson Christy as Secretary.

The board amended the 2016-2017 school calendar to make May 11 the last day of school with the high school dismissing at 11:30 that morning and elementary dismissing at 11:40.

The district will seek bids for the replacement of the furnaces in the high school gym as well as local food items, milk, bus fuel, and propane.

The board accepted the resignations of Vocational Agriculture instructor Michael Slater, kindergarten through 12th-grade music instructor Shelby Rogers, speech pathologist Gail Young, and Physical Therapist Lisa Thayne.

It was announced paraprofessional Delores Herring would retire at the end of this school year.

During a closed session, the board voted to hire Cheyenne Martin of New London as the district’s Vocational Agriculture instructor as well as Kelly Ott of Madison as a speech pathologist.

The board also approved to rehire all non-certified staff and extra-duty contracts.
