Grundy County Sheriff’s Office reports multiple felony arrests

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of three individuals on July 8th, including one woman who turned herself in.

Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Ann Kelly of Trenton surrendered herself on felony charges of third-degree assault involving a special victim and resisting or interfering with an arrest for a felony. She also faces misdemeanor charges of second-degree harassment and second-degree property damage involving law enforcement or a relative. Bond was set at $75,000 cash only, and she was scheduled to appear in the Associate Division of Grundy County Circuit Court on July 9th.

Court documents accuse Kelly of causing physical injury to law enforcement officer Bryan Roberts on May 10th by throwing a Monster drink at him and kicking his hand. She is also accused of resisting arrest by using or threatening physical force and failing to comply with Roberts’s commands. Additionally, Kelly allegedly caused emotional distress to Main Stop employees and customers by yelling and threatening them and is accused of damaging patrol vehicle seats by spitting on them.

Forty-one-year-old Stacy Craig of Trenton, already in custody, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia involving amphetamine or methamphetamine, abandonment of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution. Her bond was set at $50,000 cash only, and she was scheduled to appear in the Associate Division of Grundy County Circuit Court on July 9th.

Court documents state that Craig possessed methamphetamine, glass pipes, and a spoon on June 6th. She is also accused of abandoning a corpse at a location on Lawn Street on May 31st without properly reporting it to law enforcement and destroying or concealing security camera files. According to a probable cause statement, Craig called 911 on May 31st at 8 a.m. regarding an unresponsive victim at her residence, stating the person had been breathing as of 6 a.m. However, the coroner reportedly determined the victim had been dead for 12 to 16 hours.

Thirty-year-old Benjamin Keith Leach of Cameron was arrested in Clinton County on a capias warrant for an alleged probation violation. His original charges were felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia involving a prior drug offense. His bond was set at $10,000 cash only, and he is scheduled to appear in Division One of Grundy County Circuit Court on July 11th.

Court documents accuse Leach of possessing methamphetamine in April 2022 and smoking pipes. He pleaded guilty in Caldwell County Circuit Court in November 2018 to unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
