Grundy County Commission tackles busy agenda on Tuesday

The Grundy County Commission accepted bids Tuesday morning for culverts.

Metal Culverts Incorporated’s bid for steel corrugated tubes was accepted. The price for the steel culverts varies from $21.73 for 24-inch to $74.02 for 60-inch per linear foot. Metal Culverts was the only bid submitted for metal culverts. Owens Trenching’s bid for black N12 double wall plastic tile was accepted. The price for the plastic culverts varies from $5 for 12-inch to $43.33 for 48-inch per linear foot. Owens Trenching was one of three companies that submitted bids for plastic culverts. Others were Viebrock Sales and Metal Culverts.)

No pickup, fuel, or concrete bids were submitted. Bids are being re-let for the fuel and concrete and are due to the Grundy County Clerk’s Office by the morning of April 28th when they will be opened.

Presiding Commissioner Phillip Ray reported new audiovisual equipment is to be purchased through iRecord for the Grundy County Law Enforcement Center to use. It will replace the current system, which Ray said has become outdated and is no longer serviceable. The three-camera system will be used in the Blood Alcohol Content, custodial interview, and non-custodial rooms. It is independent of the jail camera system. IRecord is used for court purposes in some interviews, including sexual assault.

The Road and Bridge Department reported bridge repairs and back wall stabilization projects are being done on Northeast 100th Avenue and Northeast 105th Avenue. Short-term equipment rental is being considered to complete flood-damaged areas at several bridge sites.

United States Department of Agriculture Civil Engineer Dennis Speichinger reported the Natural Resources Conservation Service Streambank Stabilization program will continue to work on a Highway 6 bridge project. He noted the project is sizable and will require large-scale planning. The Missouri Department of Transportation has expressed an interest in partnering with the NRCS and is to examine cost estimate projections during the preliminary processes.

The Grundy County Commission held a conference call with Elizabeth Gibson with the Grundy County Health Department. Gibson reported no positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the county, but there have been more than 27 hundred (2,722) cases and 39 deaths reported in Missouri as of yesterday (Monday) afternoon. She said funding opportunities are a growing concern for public health agencies as the pandemic continues. The health department is sending out daily information releases for the public.

Another conference call was held with Ambulance Director Steve Tracy. He reported growing concerns about personal protective equipment supply continue to be at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic while operational considerations are made.
