The Green Hills Women’s Shelter is seeking volunteers to help with various aspects of its program.

Volunteer coordinator Roxanne Chase tells that there is an application process and two background checks that need to be completed.

The background checks with Family Care Safety Registry with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the other is a name search for a criminal record with the Missouri State Highway Patrol cost $13 each.

Chase says once training is complete and the volunteer begins volunteering, that fee is reimbursed by the agency.

The shelter provides 48 hours of trauma informed care training on domestic and sexual violence as well as monthly training.

Chase adds that even two hours of training can help those in need.

The training will be offered on the job and online, and certificates will be issued when each course is complete.

Chase says volunteers can do whatever they feel comfortable doing.

She says this includes such things as listening to a client, providing child care during support groups, answering phones, teaching clients to cook, give a support group, and teaching budgeting.

Chase adds that the shelter also needs volunteers to provide transportation.

Call Chase at 660-359-3297 or 816-632-4900 for more information.
