A Gilman City man died Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash near Jamesport.

The highway patrol identified the victim as 92-year-old William Turner. He was pronounced dead at Wright Memorial Hospital nearly one hour after the wreck. The other driver, whose from Gallatin, received minor injuries.

Turner’s pickup was eastbound and a sports utility vehicle driven by 42-year-old Sarah Bird of Gallatin was westbound. Investigators with the Highway Patrol’s major crash investigation unit reported Turner’s pickup crossed the center line and traveled into the path of the SUV. The sport utility vehicle traveled off the north side of Highway 6, struck an embankment, and overturned. Both vehicles were demolished.

Sarah Bird, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton. The victim, William Turner, was not using a safety device.

Assistance at the scene near Jamesport was provided by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, Daviess County Ambulance, and the Jamesport Fire Department.
