General Election: A preview of candidates and issues in north Missouri as well as issues statewide

Polls are open until 7 o’clock tonight across Missouri as candidates are elected to office and local and statewide issues are decided by the voters.

There are no countywide races in Grundy, Mercer, Sullivan, Harrison, and Livingston counties. Within the rest of the Green Hills, there are only a handful of races for county office.

The contest for presiding commissioner in Putnam County is between Robert Munden and Mark Middleton. Seeking Daviess County Clerk are Ronetta Burton and Teresa Eaton. Candidates for Linn County Circuit Clerk are Jean Ham and Amber Boley. Two races happen in Caldwell County. Candidates for the presiding commissioner are C R “Bud” Motsinger and Dennis Walker. Seeking Caldwell County clerk are Christine Owen and Sharon Wright.

There also are races to determine the next state representatives in House district seven for Grundy, Livingston, and much of Linn County; third district of Mercer, Sullivan, Putnam and part of Adair County; and eighth house of Clinton and Caldwell counties plus parts of Ray and Clay.

12th district state senator and 6th district congressman also have candidates and statewide, there are five candidates each for U.S. Senator and Missouri auditor.

Local issues around the Green Hills Region include one in Sullivan County to have a 50 cent road and bridge levy for a five year period.

Voters within the towns of Gilman City, Bethany and Eagleville decide whether to impose a local use tax that equals the local amount of sales tax.

Voters of the Noel T. Adams Memorial ambulance district in Harrison and Daviess counties decide whether to discontinue local sales tax on titling motor vehicles, trailers, and boats purchased from a source other than a licensed Missouri dealer.

There are seven ballot issues for statewide voting and four are proposed constitutional amendments and three propositions.

These, in brief form, are:

Constitutional Amendment 1 – for reapportionment and other issues.

Constitutional Amendment 2 – to allow medical marijuana.

Constitutional Amendment 3 – to allow medical marijuana. 

Constitutional Amendment 4 – to clean up language in the constitution regarding Bingo advertising and restrictions.

Proposition B – to increase the minimum wage. 

Proposition C – to allow medical marijuana.

Proposition D – to increase the motor fuel tax
