Braymer resident Garland Joseph Nelson appeared via Polycom video on Monday in Caldwell County Circuit Court where he waived formal arraignment and pleaded NOT guilty to a felony stealing charge.

At the request of the defendants’ attorney, Circuit Court Judge Brent Elliott continued this case until February 9th.

A law enforcement officers’ probable cause statement accuses 26-year-old Nelson of convincing another man he owned a semi-tractor parked at a Braymer residence and requested that it be moved, allegedly without the actual owner’s consent.

Nelson remains in custody on multiple other charges which include two counts of first-degree murder. Those cases remain, on a change of venue, in the Johnson County Circuit Court. Judge Michael Wagner has denied the defense attorney’s request to have confidential contact visits with Nelson. The case was set for a review of motions on December 22nd.
