Gallatin, Hamilton boys among opening night winners in Class 2, District 16

The boys basketball tournament in Class 2, District 16, hosted by Maysville High School, opened on Tuesday night.  Among the winning squads were the #1 seed from Penney High School of Hamilton, and the #3 seed Gallatin Bulldogs.

The Hamilton boys had little trouble with #8 seed Albany, jumping out to a 30-6 lead after one quarter and throttling the Warriors, 78-21.  LaTroy Harper led Penney with 21 points.  Korby Ford had 17, Telly Harper 12, and Jaran Richman 10 points.  The Hornets advance to the semifinals to play the North Platte Panthers, a 59-54 quarterfinal winner over the Polo Panthers.  All-GRC first teamer Parker Smith led Polo with 26 points while James Fleener added 13.

The Gallatin Bulldogs were strong in a 70-51 quarterfinal victory over the South Harrison Bulldogs.  Harris Cameron led GHS with 25 points, while Samuel Coulson had 16.  Treyton Campbell led South Harrison with 12 points.  The Gallatin Bulldogs will play the defending Class 2 runner-up Mid-Buchanan Dragons in the semifinals.  Mid-Buch shutdown Maysville in a 64-13 victory, with Braydn Kemper scoring 22 points for the winners.

Down the road from Maysville, in Gower, East Buchanan High School is hosting the Class 3, District 16 tournament, with the boys quarterfinals played on Tuesday night.  The LeBlond Golden Eagles defeated Lathrop 62-46, Maryville crushed Cristo Rey 86-24, East Buchanan claimed a 54-46 win over Plattsburg, while St. Pius X defeated Cameron 52-37.
