A former Maysville teacher has been sentenced to jail and been fined after pleading guilty last week to 13 criminal counts stemming from incidents in 2015 and 2016.

Rodney David Thomas appeared Wednesday in Clinton County Circuit Court in Plattsburg for a sentencing hearing on one charge of attempted sexual contact with a student and 12 counts of assaults in the third degree. All are misdemeanor charges.

Judge Brent Elliott sentenced Thomas to one year in the county jail and fined him $1,000 on the attempted sexual contact charge. On each of the dozen charges involving misdemeanor assault, Thomas was given consecutive sentences of 15 days in the county jail and a fine of $500.00. The disposition on those counts adds up to 180 days of jail and $6,000 in fines.

Rodney Thomas has already served more time in jail than what the sentences allow for. He was arrested two years ago (May 2017). Credit was given for time served while awaiting court appearances. He was given 60 days to pay the fines and court costs.
