Five injured on I-35 when big rig causes chain reaction crash

Five individuals from Oklahoma City were taken to hospitals in Liberty and Cameron following a chain reaction, three-vehicle accident this morning in Clinton County.

The Interstate 35 accident happened five miles to the north of Lathrop with the highway patrol listing all injuries as minor.

Heading northbound were a tractor-trailer, a pickup truck, and an express van. All vehicles came to a controlled stop on the shoulder of I-35. The highway patrol reported the big rig struck the rear of the pickup truck which was then pushed into the rear of the van. Vehicle damage ranged from minor to moderate.

Taken by ambulance to Liberty Hospital were a passenger in the tractor-trailer: 30-year-old Sandra Cruz; as well as the drivers of the pickup and express van respectively: 32-year-old Claudia Olacio and 38-year-old Freddy Castillo-Calderon.

Transported by ambulance to Cameron Regional Medical Center were two occupants of the van: 35-year-old Angel Hernandez-Hernandez and 35-year-old Pedro Vazquez-Murillo.

The tractor-trailer driver, 23-year-old Dalton Cumpton of Linn Valley, Kansas apparently wasn’t hurt.

Assisting the highway patrol were Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Cameron ambulance, and the Tri-County ambulance.
