Firefighters called to GHS Paper Tube and Core in Albany; Hy-Vee store under threat

Firefighters are on the scene of a fire at GHS Paper Tube and Core Manufacturing in Albany this Sunday afternoon. At this time, it is reported much of the building has been destroyed.

Multiple fire departments were called to the scene at around 1 o’clock this afternoon, and remained on the scene as of 5:45 pm. Flames were reported coming from the front of the building, at 805 U.S. Highway 136 at 5:30.

The fire is reported to have threatened the local Hy-Vee store, located just west of the GHS Paper Tube and Core facility. The store was evacuated, and power was shut off to Hy-Vee as well as several buildings in that area.

Albany, New Hampton as well as the Stanberry fire departments responded to the scene, however, other departments have also been contacted.

Highway 136 currently remains closed as of 6 pm, to allow emergency responders freedom to work the fire.

Thus far, no injuries have been reported.
