A controlled burn of grass in Spickard got out of control Saturday afternoon when the wind picked up and resulted in a vacant house catching fire.

According to Jesse Richmond of the Spickard Fire Protection District the owner of the house, J.R. Roberts, told firefighters to let the structure burn. Richmond said Roberts had planned to tear the house down anyway.

Firefighters stood by to make sure the blaze did not spread to other properties with Richmond reporting there were some spotty fires, but there were no other structures within about 200 yards.

Firefighters were on the scene approximately 90 minutes on Lincoln Street in southern Spickard.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
